Planning your wedding and feeling a little overwhelmed?

You’re not alone. A lot of brides start the planning process without knowing what a full wedding day actually looks like. That’s totally okay — and I’m here to walk you through the key moments, big and small, that often make up a wedding day.

Whether you’re dreaming of an intimate backyard celebration or a full-blown ballroom party, this guide will give you clarity on what to expect, how to prepare, and which moments you may want captured forever.

🌸 Before the Ceremony: The Getting Ready Hours

The day usually begins with hair and makeup, cozy robes, laughter, and maybe even a mimosa or two. This is when the vibe is most relaxed — and also when your photographer and videographer can capture beautiful detail shots of:

  • The dress, shoes, rings, and invitation suite

  • The bride getting zipped into the gown

  • Emotional moments with parents or bridesmaids

  • Groom getting ready with his groomsmen (often separately)

Pro Tip: Plan more time here than you think. Delays often happen in the morning, so padding the schedule helps reduce stress.

💌 Optional Pre-Ceremony Moments

Some couples choose to include these extra-special touches:

  • First Look – A private reveal between you and your partner before the ceremony

  • Letter Reading or Gift Exchange – Personal, heartfelt moments you can cherish forever

  • Prayer or Meditation with Family – A grounding moment before the whirlwind begins

💍 The Ceremony

This is it — the moment you say “I do.” Ceremonies typically last 20–45 minutes, depending on your traditions and format.

Captured moments often include:

  • The processional (bridesmaids, groomsmen, parents, and finally YOU!)

  • The vows (written or traditional)

  • The ring exchange and first kiss

  • Recessional — your first walk together as newlyweds!

🎉 Cocktail Hour

While you’re off taking family or couple portraits, guests enjoy drinks and appetizers. This is a great time to:

  • Sneak away for a quiet moment together

  • Capture golden hour portraits

  • Get fun, candid footage with your bridal party

🪩 The Reception

Here’s where the celebration really begins. Receptions often include:

  • Grand Entrance

  • First Dance

  • Parent Dances (Father-Daughter, Mother-Son, etc.)

  • Toasts & Speeches

  • Dinner Service

  • Cake Cutting

  • Bouquet & Garter Toss (optional!)

  • Open Dance Floor

Don’t forget to eat, hydrate, and be present. This is the part where time really flies.

✨ Golden Hour & Nighttime Magic

Some of the most cinematic moments can happen after sunset:

  • Sunset couple portraits

  • Sparkler exit, champagne tower, or a private last dance

  • Fireworks, lanterns, or other surprise sendoffs

📹 Final Thoughts: What Do You Want to Remember?

Every wedding is unique. You don’t have to include every tradition — but knowing what’s possible can help you create a day that reflects you.

As a wedding filmmaker, I help couples relive every moment through story-driven films that feel real, emotional, and timeless. If you’re still figuring out your day, I’d love to help you map it out — and make sure nothing gets missed.

Let’s chat and start creating your perfect day together. 💛
